Air India recently took delivery of its 20th Boeing 787 Dreamliner. They ordered a total of 27 Dreamliners back in 2005, all 787-8s. With one more 787-8 nearing delivery, the AI management is now planning to convert six of their final 787-8 order into the longer range Boeing 787-9 series and may also convert their past Boeing 777 order into 3 more 787-9s.
Since the order change is still in planning stages, the airline management has not come out with an official press release yet. However, here's a look at the aircraft registrations for their remaining aircraft assuming atleast 6 of them being converting into 787-9:
VT-ANU - 20th 787-8 (Star Alliance colours)
VT-ANV - 21st 787-8
VT- ANW 787-9
VT- ANX 787-9
VT- ANY 787-9
VT- ANZ 787-9
VT- NAA 787-9
VT- NAC 787-9
